TUCANO VANADIUM PROJECT

The project is located in Bahia State approximately 277km southwest of Salvador City. Vanadium and uranium mineralization occur in the Mesozoic Sergi Formation of the Tucano Basin, associated with organic-rich and green colored clay alluvial sandstones. The primary minerals of interest are vanadium and uranium bearing oxides. Previous results (Saad and Munne, 1982)  are significant in terms of U3O8 (50 ppm to 7,500 ppm with an average of 1,600 ppm in 9 intervals) and V2O5 (0.03 to 17.4 % with an average of 2.88% in 9 intervals) grades. 3.7km mineralized vanadium-uranium horizon. Current Brazilian legislation establishes uranium is a federal monopoly. Amazon’s focus will be on vanadium exploration.

HISTORY

In 1964 a Geological Survey was prepared by the US Atomic Energy Commission to evaluate uranium resources in the region. Results confirmed an extensive mineralized structure, and recommended a grid drilling program to a depth of 250m to identify resources within an area which includes our Tucano concession. Exploration carried out in the 60’s and 70’s by CNEM (ex-Brazilian Nuclear Agency) and CPRM (Brazilian Government Geological Agency) included trenching and diamond drilling (Phase I – 2,200m ; Phase 2 – 6,150m)

Due to very low core recovery and inadequate sampling method on the mineralized intervals, the correlation between the analytical results and radioactivity measurements could not be established at that time.

Trenches opened in the Rua Nova region (village located in the central Tucano basin) showed V2O5 values of >1% in association with uranium mineralization.
