Amazon Mining Holding Plc (TSX-V symbol: “AMZ”) (“Amazon”
or the “Company”), is pleased to provide encouraging results from
nutrient availability tests completed on its proposed ThermoPotash
product. ThermoPotash is shown to provide similar availability of
potassium nutrient (K
2O) as muriate of potash (KCl) in both
clayey and sandy soils. In addition, tests showed that ThermoPotash is
also a source of calcium and magnesium, two essential macronutrients not
available in KCl.
The tests were performed by Dr. Gaspar Korndorfer at the University
of Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in accordance with a recognized
industry measure of nutrient availability in soils. Tests were completed
using equal amounts of contained potassium (K2O) from
ThermoPotash, muriate of potash (KCl) and verdete, the unprocessed
source rock for ThermoPotash. Samples were prepared to replicate
fertilizer distribution of 200 kg/ha and 400 kg/ha of K2O in clayey and sandy soil, samples were left for 90 days in a closed system and levels of K2O
available to plants were measured using a Melich 1 acid mixture. Melich
1 extractor is often called the double acid test. It uses a dilute
mixture of hydrochloric (0.05N HCl) and sulfuric acids (0.025N H2SO4), to retrieve the nutrients in the soil.

The tests show that KCl and ThermoPotash are statistically equivalent
in making potassium available to plants as a fertilizer. Verdete
unprocessed was not able to impact potassium levels in the soil, showing
that our process work is both necessary and effective. Levels of other
essential macronutrients for plant growth, calcium and magnesium, were
also measured. ThermoPotash was also very effective in delivering these
nutrients, which are not present in KCl. Full results with statistical
variances will be made available on SEDAR.
In addition, a nutrient leaching test being conducted at the
University of Uberlandia will compare how much potassium fertilizer is
washed away by regular rainfall.
Commenting Agronomist Dr. Gaspar Korndorfer, “We are encouraged by
this result; it shows that the pyrometallurgical process has been
effective at liberating the nutrients for plant uptake, showing
ThermoPotash can be an effective multi-nutrient fertilizer. We will
conduct more tests to support the slow release claims of the proposed
product”.
About Amazon
Amazon Mining is a mineral exploration and development company
founded by Brazilians in 2005. The company is focused on the development
of Cerrado Verde project. Cerrado Verde is source of a potash rich rock
from which Amazon plans to produce a slow-release, non-chloride,
multi-nutrient, fertilizer product. Amazon Mining is a UK public company
with shares listed on the TSX Venture Exchange since November 2007.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Amazon Mining Holding Plc, Jed Richardson, Vice President of Corporate Development.
