Amazon Mining Holding Plc (TSX-V symbol: “AMZ”)(“Amazon”
or the “Company”), is pleased to announce that the Company has retained
Dr. Gaspar Korndörfer to conduct conceptual studies on the benefits of
Amazon’s proposed ThermoPotash product. Dr. Korndörfer is a leading
agronomist and brings a wealth of knowledge in Brazilian crops and
soils, and experience in developing new fertilizers. Dr. Korndörfer will
assist Amazon in developing a highly effective potash fertilizer from
the Cerrado Verde project.
Cerrado Verde is a source of potash rich rock from which Amazon plans
to produce a slow-release, non-chloride, multi-nutrient, fertilizer
product.
Dr. Gaspar Korndörfer is currently a Professor of Agriculture at the
Universidade Fedederal de Uberlandia. He has a Post-Doctorate from
University of Florida, US, and has earned his Doctorate on Soils and
Plant Nutrition from ESALQ of the Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil. His
past research includes ground breaking work on the use of biologically
available silica in the plantation of sugarcane, demonstrating silica’s
role in protecting crops from pests and enhancing crop resistance to
drought; and “Opportunities for Potassium Fertilizer in Brazil”, a work
commissioned by Amazon Mining aimed at identifying the potential
advantages of ThermoPotash in Brazilian soils.
Conceptual studies and initial agronomic simulations carried out by
Dr. Korndörfer are being used to define technical parameters for the
planning of Amazon’s metallurgical test work, which is being performed
by Phoster Tecnologia de Aglomerações (Phoster). He will also conduct
laboratory scale tests on the application of ThermoPotash and oversee
field tests conducted by ArcelorMittal, Agrifirma and other development
partners.
Further to the news release dated November 24, 2009, the Company
wishes to clarify that Agrifirma’s co-operation will be confined to
field agronomic tests. Agrifirma is thus only meeting its own costs
incurred in applying ThermoPotash to soybeans and corn crops on
designated test plots. and data collection and analysis will using its
own field and technical staff.
Commenting President & CEO Cristiano Veloso, “We are pleased to
add Professor Gaspar’s expertise to our team, he will be an important
part of our upcoming lab and field agronomic trials. Our development
partner agreements provide an opportunity to market our ThermoPotash
product to important potential customers as well as collect vital
information about how our product can be applied in real world
conditions. We now have agreements that will provide information on
ThermoPotash use for sugarcane via EMBRAPA (See news release August 4,
2009), eucalyptus via ArcelorMittal (See news release September 23,
2009), and soybeans and corn via Agrifirma (See news release November
24, 2009). These crops represent 71% of Brazil’s planted crops by land
area. We hope to add agreements for other important crops, but we are
pleased with our start.”
