About Us

Peter Gundy , , , Chairman

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Gundy was Chairman of Neo Material Technologies Inc. a TSX listed mineral technologies company. Mr. Gundy was the company’s founder as well as President and Chief Executive Officer from 1992 to 2006. He resigned as Chairman in 2008. From start-up in 1992, Neo Material Technologies became the largest global producer in its sector. Prior thereto, he had been a Vice-President of Brascan Inc., having been involved with the company’s investments in Brazil. He also was Executive Vice President, Finance of the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Limited at its inception, Chairman of its sales subsidiary and played a major role in its establishment. Mr. Gundy has also held the position of Chairman of Renaissance Securities Inc., a Canadian securities dealer. Mr. Gundy is currently a co-owner of Veritprop Ltd. in Toronto.

Cristiano Veloso , , , Founder, President & CEO, Director

Cristiano is the Brazilian entrepreneur credited with founding Verde Potash (formerly known as Amazon Mining Holding) in 2005 at the age of 23. Mr. Veloso has since led the Company’s development. From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Veloso was employed by Banco do Brasil, S.A. in its international business development department, and prior to that, in the Corporate Branch. Mr. Veloso worked at Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais S.A. (CEMIG), a leading South American energy and gas company during 1999. His began his entrepreneurial training at the secondary level, completing a four year course in business management at Escola Tecnica de Formacao Gerencial SEBRAE. Mr. Veloso is a lawyer, earning is LLB at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and his LLM in International Business Law at the University of East Anglia, UK.

Jed Richardson , , , VP Corporate Development

Prior to joining Verde, Mr. Richardson was a mining analyst with Cormark Securities, focused on precious metals as part of an 8 year career in mining research with Cormark/Sprott Securities (5 years) and RBC Capital Markets (3 years), covering precious and base metal equities of small and large capitalization. After graduating from University of Toronto’s mineral engineering program, Mr. Richardson worked for Alcan Aluminium as a Mining Engineer.

Dr. Getulio Lamartine de Paula Fonseca , ,

Mr. Fonseca is a senior economist with over 40 years of government and consulting experience in the Brazilian resource, electrical and power generation sectors, and served as Deputy Minister of the Environment (Brazil) in 1994. Since 1990, Mr. Fonseca has been employed by GL Consultoria Ltda as a consultant to the Brazilian resource, electric and power generation industries. In that role, Mr. Fonseca has assisted businesses such as Bank of Montréal, Samarco Mineração S.A., Klabin S.A., Alcoa Inc., KLM Aerocarto B.V., Construtora Norberto Odebrecht S.A., Acesita S.A. and Dow Corning Corporation with major projects in Brazil. From 1985 to 1990, Mr. Fonseca was the General Director of the National Department of Power and Water Supply (DNAEE) at the Brazilian Ministry of Mining and Power Supply, and from 1979 to 1984, was the Executive-Secretary of the Industrial Development Council at the Brazilian Industry and Commerce Ministry. For various periods between 1972 to 1979, Mr. Fonseca was the Associate Secretary for the Minas Gerais State Industry, Commerce and Tourism Secretariat, and also served as the Co-ordinator of the Economic Advisory Team to the Minas Gerais State Finance Secretariat. From 1971 to 1972, he was employed with the Minas Gerais state Industrial Development Institute, and the office of the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Superintendant. From 1966 to 1971, Mr. Fonseca held positions with Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais S.A. (CEMIG).

Dr. Henrique Brandão Cavalcanti , ,

Mr. Cavalcanti has a B.Eng., Civil Engineering (McGill University, Canada). His former appointments include Brazil's Minister of the Environment (1994), Deputy Minister of Mines Energy (1967-69), Deputy Minister of Interior (1969-74). Has held senior posts at Electrobras, Brazilian Steel Corporation, International Environmental Bureau in Geneva and CAEMI. Mr. Cavalcanti has represented Brazil at the United Nations and World Health Organization and is the President of Funatura-Foundation for Nature Protection since 2003.

Dr. Renato Gomes , ,

Mr. Gomes is currently the President and CEO of Atlantica Mining, which operates iron ore projects in Brazil. He is a lawyer with international corporate, financial and mining experience, having worked at Gerson Boson, Gambogi & Alkmim Advogados; the United Nations; Roschier Attorneys Ltd. and Georgetown University. Mr. Gomes is also a director of the ABCI Institute (Brazilian International Trade Scholars) and a member of the Bar in Brazil, Portugal and New York State, USA. Mr. Gomes holds an LL.B., (Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil), LL.M., (London School of Economics, UK), and is a PhD. Candidate (Georgetown University, USA).

Dr. Richard Garnett , ,

Dr. Richard Garnett has extensive experience in the mining industry with 50 years spent working with a wide range of minerals in jurisdictions from Canada, South Africa, and South East Asia to South America, including Brazil. Through his career he has held senior positions with Rio Tinto, Anglo American, Hudson Bay Mining and Diamond Fields Resources, where he was instrumental in the early recognition and exploration of the Voisey's Bay nickel deposit. A mining engineer by training, he also holds a PhD. in Economic Geology from the Royal School of Mines (Imperial College UK) and a MBA from Cranfield University (UK) . Dr. Garnett currently resides in Oakville, Ontario and has been active with Verde since 2008 as a consultant and member of the advisory board.
